School board member Ralph Cunningham asked the administration to send a letter
of apology to St. Mary's, after about $1000 of merchandise and money was stolen
from their football team's locker room last Friday.
Calhoun principal Emilo Garza said the locker area had been checked, and locks were
locked, but at least one door could have been open with some physical power.
Principal Mike Offutt said the school had ordered $600 in new locks.
The board was advised, the State Police do have leads on the theft.
One or more vandals also damaged some Wirt County school buses at an earlier
football game, including road lights and gas caps, said Principal Mike Offutt. Garza
said at least one Calhoun student has been identified.
A special school board meeting has been set for October 30 to review the
expulsion of three students on controlled substance charges.
Curriculum Director Greg Cartwright discussed the new standardized testing,
including the Westest, which will replace the SAT-9.
Cartwright also discussed the state-adopted grading policy, which insures all
counties use the same grading system.

The board approved the dual credit policy and the testing out policy, both of which
are published on the board's web site.
Several West Virginia counties, including Calhoun, is receiving a grant to help raise
college going rates and to prevent college dropout, according to Superintendent
Ron Blankenship. A workshop will be held on November 20th to assist students and
parents access college-bound information.
The board heard drafts of a policy to promote board efficiency and a promotion
retention policy.
The board conducted personnel business, transportation requests, student
transfers, a contract with Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center and Lights On!
proposals.
They approved financial amounts to about $700,000.
