The Calhoun Commission discussed the status of nearly $100,000 in grant applications,
most of which will be used for improvement of Wayne Underwood Field.
After recommendations from the County Park Board, the commission is expected
to seek funding for projects at the park.
A low bid using $29,429 of grant money was accepted from American Standard
Specialty Coating of Marietta, Ohio to roof about 12,000 square feet of the NYA
building on Route 7.
The Calhoun Commission tentatively approved Joe Tanner of Arnoldsburg as the
E-911 Addressing Coordinator, a position being required by West Virginia 911.
A report on a proposed 911 Center said the 911 Advisory Board is making rapid
progress regarding a site selection and building. The structure would house 911
and likely have space for the Office of Emergency Services. The Advisory Board
expects to present a proposal to the commission in December.
The commission approved the purchase of about $15,000 of computer software for
the County Clerk's office. Clerk Richard Kirby said Calhoun and Wirt are likely the
only two counties that have not switched to computer operations for processing
bills and check writing.
The commission tentatively approved Alton Altizer to represent Calhoun County, in
addition to Commissioner Weaver, on the Blue-Gray highway project. They also
tentatively approved Debbie Hartshorn to fill an open vacancy on the county
building commission.
Other items covered by the commission included selecting a date for a Special
Emergency Services Election.
Commissioners also processed settlements, bonds, bills, wills and orders, in
addition to paying invoices.
