The kindergarten teachers and para-professionals are team teaching in the mornings this year at Pleasant Hill School. The students go to all five learning stations for a 20-minute lesson on different kindergarten objectives.

Mrs. Becky Czap teaches each group awareness of the sounds that make up language. This is a foundation which must be in place to learn phonics. Later in the year she will introduce them to phonics, the relationship between letters and sounds.

Through children's literature Mrs. Kristi Ritchie teaches comprehension of what is heard and later read, concepts about print, identifying and describing the characters in a story, noticing details, comparing and contrasting.

Mrs. Becky Miller teaches students about the way language is put together (naming words, singular and plural, etc) and writing. Children's "emergent" writing can take the form of drawings, lines and squiggles, or some words.

Mrs. Anne Smith teaches beginning math skills to each group: shapes, counting, correspondence between numbers and objects, patterns.
