West Nile Virus is still loitering,
with mosquitoes everywhere in the region this week, making a last dash before
winter.
West Virginia has reported its first confirmed human case of the West Nile virus for
this year, a Berkeley County senior citizen.
Last year, there were two West Nile-related deaths in West Virginia. A third person
who tested positive for the virus recovered.
While health officials say West Virginians shouldn't panic, they should take some
precautions.
That includes using mosquito repellent containing DEET and ridding property of
standing water.
Twenty-five of West Virginia's 55 counties have discovered birds that have tested
positive for the West Nile Virus. Three horses have been diagnosed with the virus
in Jefferson and Hancock counties.
