It looked and sounded like the real thing.

A mock disaster was conducted yesterday evening, with victims being rescued, treated and transported from the old NYA building (Goodrich) on Route 7 above Grantsville. The Grantsville VFD, Calhoun EMS and Minnie Hamilton Health Care participated in the drill.

At least two firemen suffered minor injuries during the drill, including exhaustion and pulled muscles, according to Grantsville Fire Chief Steve Heath. They were taken to Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center for evaluation and then released.

The building was filled with "fake smoke" created by a smoke generator to create a more realistic effect.

Heath said such drills help firemen get practical experience, before the real thing happens.
