For the second consecutive year, a dead bird found in Spencer has confirmed the presence of the West Nile virus in the
area. The bird, a cardinal found in early September in the Green Acres area, was tested at a lab in Georgia. Roane is the
third county in the six-county region served by the Mid-Ohio Valley Health Dept. to be confirmed positive for the virus.
Ritchie and Wood counties were confirmed earlier this month. Certain species of mosquitoes can contract West Nile virus
