STATE POLICE RAID MARIJUANA FIELD, MAYBE - 1,000 Plants Found, Maybe

(09/11/2003)
State Police reportedly confiscated up to 1000 marijuana plants in a wooded area near Norman Ridge last Wednesday, September 3rd.

However, the raid has not been confirmed.

The Grantsville Detachment has declined to provide public information about the raid after the Herald issued two written requests.

Neighbors near the scene said they did not believe any arrests were made.

Reports said police units and a helicopter searched the area and some police vehicles "got stuck up" getting into a wooded area.

The plants were reportedly growing in an area formerly owned by Mead-Westvaco.

It was unclear where the marijuana was taken, said neighbors, who witnessed the event on Norman Ridge.

Trooper Doug Starcher of the Spencer Detachment may have led the search.

The West Virginia State Police have declined to provide public information in Calhoun, including FOIA requests for activity logs, a violation of public information laws.
