A Christian outreach group from Blairsville PA has brought implements,
household
goods, appliances, furniture and clothing for free distribution to
Calhoun residents.
Operation Help made a return visit to the Minnora Community Center
yesterday.
President of the center Wanda Richards said she is grateful for their
contributions to
local families.
Richards said country and bluegrass music was returning to the Center
tonight.
Janet Muir, secretary for the group, said the organization first made
deliveries to
Webster County in 1997. "We try to distribute things people really
need," she said.
"There are no strings attached." A large number of people filled their
bags and cars
with clothing and other items.
Richards, who was busy helping with the event, was excited about
winning a Wal-Mart
trip to Arkansas after the company recognized her selling skills at
the Spencer store.
She said the store received a large shipment of forty pound boxes of
chicken feet by
mistake. "Now you know chicken feet is not a hot item," she said.
Richards set out to
sell the chicken feet at her register at a markdown price of $5.
"I told the customers they could make their own chicken stock, have
"hot" breaded
chicken feet and any other way you could fix them. Do you know, I sold
bunches of
those chicken feet." Wal-Mart is using Richard's methods to teach
other employees
selling skills.
