The "Price" was right. So was the Metz and the Davis and the Laughlin and the
Houchin ⦠as a matter of fact Calhoun
clicked on all cylinders en route to a lopsided 30-0 season-opening victory over
Gilmer Friday night.
Junior Justin Price scored twice and rushed for 146 yards on 13 carries to lead the
Red Devils. The junior running back
scored on a 54-yard pass from Zach Houchin while adding another touchdown on a
three-yard run.
Houchin, who was two-for-four passing, also hit Shawn Laughlin with a 60-yard
touchdown pass in the third quarter.
Calhoun scored on a 13-yard run by senior running back Eric Metz. Metz unofficially
had 144 yards rushing on 14 carries.
Calhoun's other touchdown was scored on a three-yard-run by Marcus Davis, who
moved from the line to the backfield in a
short-yardage situation near the Gilmer goal line situation in the second
quarter.
Statistically Calhoun had its way with the Titans. Calhoun had 449 yards total
offense with 335 yards rushing and 114 passing
while holding Gilmer to 120 yards total offense.
Jacob Lilly led the way for Gilmer County with 54 yards rushing on 27 carries.
The only negatives for the Red Devils were five missed extra point attempts and a
plethora of penalties. Overall Calhoun was
whistled for 17 penalties and 147 yards.
Calhoun County is now 1-0 while Gilmer is 0-1. Calhoun will be home to Ritchie
County in a 7:30 p.m. game Friday night
while Gilmer County is on the road at Pocahontas.
All Calhoun games are broadcast on WVRC-FM (104.7) on a tape-delay basis.
