Monoka Burns, 89, of Grantsville, West Virginia, died August 25th at Minnie Hamilton Health
Care Center, Grantsville.
Born in Calhoun County, she was a daughter of the late Everett and Lona Gainer Bennett.
She was a merchant and had operated a general store on Route 5 east of Grantsville for
many years. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge at Grantsville and the Bethlehem
United Methodist Church.
Surviving are one daughter, Barbara Ayers of Grantsville; one son, William Burns of Mesa,
Arizona; four grandchildren, Tim Ayers of St. Albans, WV, Robin Burkett of Grantsville, Brad
and David Stewart of South Gate, Michigan; also six great grandchildren, Josh and Danny
Burkett, Katie Ayers, Mariah Jordon, Sandra and Daniel Stewart.
She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents by her husband, Robert J. Burns,
December, 28, 1967, one daughter Deloris Stewart and one son, Robert Bradford Burns,
also three grandchildren, Ricky Ayers, Dianne Burns and Mark Stewart.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 30, at 1 p.m. at Stump Funeral Home,
Grantsville. Interment will be in the Bennett Cemetery at Grantsville. Friends may call at the
funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday.
