Police were searching the backwood areas of northwestern Calhoun early this
morning for Harold Stutler, 66, of Creston.
Stutler is a suspect in an ambush-style shooting of Little Creek resident Richard
Starcher shortly before 8 p.m. Monday.
Authorities said he is driving a blue 2003 Chevy S-10 pick-up, extended cab. He is
wearing a flannel type or work shirt with blue jeans.
Sheriff Allen Parsons and several deputies were trying to find Stutler on Little
Creek, Cunningham Ridge, Connolly Hill, Richardson, Goosenest, Rattlesnake and
Joker. He was reportedly spotted near Cremo on Rowels Run.
Stutler is a well-known Calhoun hunter, fisherman, trapper and herb digger. He has
operated a root buying business for many years.
He reportedly shot at Starcher four times from a position in a wooded area known
as Ace Haney Hill.
Some of the pellets hit Starcher, and he was taken to Minnie
Hamilton Health Care Center. He was treated and released. (See earlier story)
Stutler, who is Starcher's brother-in-law, has been in a family dispute over property
rights on Little Creek for over a year, according to a family spokesperson.
Sheriff Parsons said he is hopeful Stutler will surrender himself to the police
without any further harm.
