Excerpts from the minutes of the Town of Grantsville council meeting on August 4,
2003.
* Cheryl Davis complained about a woman walking her dog and using her and other neighbors yards as a bathroom. Mayor Blankenship will look into it.
* Cheryl Davis has another neighbor whose pond is stagnant and there is a house with a leak that smells. Mayor Blankenship will check this out as well.
*JoAnn Shock asked if anything can be done about speeding on Wigner Street, a drain that does not work behind Pete Zannoni's garage, and grass that needs to be mowed around an empty house. It was pointed out neighbor is in the army. Councilwoman Loretta Stevens suggested the grass be mowed at no charge while he is away.
*Cheryl Davis asked if all the flags were returned (a storm blew them down). Mayor
Blankenship said 12 are still missing, but one was donated by Dick Jarvis.
* Mayor Blankenship said State Police will help Ron Gordon set up a Neighborhood
Watch program.
* Dominion has donated a dump truck to the town.
* Mayor Blankenship hopes to work on projects around town for two hours every
Saturday. He will be asking for volunteers. (The town did get some asphalt for
patching potholes last week.)
* The mayor said there are concerns about bikes on sidewalks, asking council to
think about the problem.
* There was discussion about the repair of a dumpster, and council voted to pay
the repair bill.
* Recorder Wease said the audit package had arrived and she will be sending audit
proposals to three CPA's.
* Recorder Wease reminded council about pay raise considerations.
* The mayor said he would like to set up a committee with volunteers to help clean
around town. Lori Fleagle and JoAnn Shock volunteered to be on the committee.
Diane Ludwig said she would look into a program called PeePod, that may assist.
* Council member Stevens said several businesses were in need of dumpsters.
* The question of the town's annual clean up day came up. It was explained there
was no grant money for the operation this year.
* The September council meeting will be held On September 8.
* Willa Kelley asked if shrubs can be trimmed to keep from obstructing a view of
traffic.
* Phyllis Maze asked if pay raises were budgeted in the new budget. She was told
they were. The pay raise issue will be discussed at next months meeting.
* Council entered into executive session, after which they voted to hire Kevin
Postalwait as the town's attorney.
* Loretta Stevens made a motion to advertise for a certified police officer. Four
voting yes, one abstaining.
* The minutes also disclosed the financials for the town, including expenditures
and current balances.
Council members present Bonnie Brown, Loretta Stevens, Keith Smith, Charles
Whipkey and Mike Wilson. Recorder Jane Wease was present.
