Area residents attending the 21st Parkersburg Homecoming got an unexpected
display of fireworks last night.
The Zambelli Brothers barge holding the display blew up.
Diane Ludwig, Director of the LK Development Corporation, who was attending the
event, said it "It was really scary, and we weren't even close to it.
It caused a huge explosion, but apparently injuring no one.
Witnesses say that less than two minutes into a 10 p.m. display which was meant
to cap the annual festival, and all the remaining fireworks arrayed on the barge
exploded almost simultaneously.
Witnesses say about 12 people standing on the barge apparently leapt or were
blown into the water.
