Officers and Firefighters from the Arnoldsburg Volunteer Fire Department arrived at the Leatherbark
Community Church at Leatherbark Friday evening, July 18, with two trucks to demonstrate how they make
real life "rescues." The church had completed a five-day vacation bible school, which followed the theme of
"Jesus To The Rescue."
Fire Chief Fred Waybright and Firefighters Carl Marks and Derek Wright explained the many aspects of
rescue and fire fighting to the kids and took equipment from the trucks for them to see and handle. They
were especially interested in the demonstration of the "Jaws of Life" and the many things the firefighters
carry with them on the trucks.
Also visiting the "rescue" demonstration was Deputy Sheriff Carl Ballengee in his Sheriff's Department
Jeep. He talked with the group and allowed the kids to ask questions and look at his vehicle. He made
special effort with Cory Carpenter who was very afraid of the trucks and the policeman.
The Firemen and Deputy were treated to the evening's covered dish dinner.
