Former Senate Education Chairman Lloyd Jackson says he is running for the Democratic nomination for governor. Jackson is from Lincoln County and is a member of the state Board of Education, recently appointed by Gov. Wise.
"Icky" Frye, the spurned husband in the Wise story, says he will run for governor.
Several announcements are expected from Democrats after Governor Wise announced today he won't seek re-election in 2004.
Treasurer John Perdue says he'll decide whether to run within ten days.
Until this week, Secretary of State Joe Manchin was the only Democrat in the race.
House leaders, Kiss and Tomblyn, have been rattling their political sabres about entering a state race. Both are southern Democrats who have expressed discontent with Gov. Wise, indicating they got along better with Republican Gov. Cecil Underwood.
At least four Republicans have said they are running, with more expected to announce.
