GRASSLAND RESERVE PROGRAM - Assistance For Rehabilitating Grasslands

(08/01/2003)
Sign-up for the Grassland Reserve Program (GRP) began June 30, 2003. This program helps landowners restore and protect grassland, rangeland, pastureland, shrubland and certain other lands and provides assistance for rehabilitating grasslands. The aim of the program is to conserve vulnerable grasslands from conversion to cropland or other uses to conserve valuable grasslands by helping maintain viable ranching/farming operations.

GRP offers producers several enrollment options including permanent easements, 30-year easements, rental agreements (10, 15 20, or 30 year duration) and restoration agreements. Payment levels vary with enrollment option.

To participate in GRP, offers must be private land that includes at least 40 contiguous acres. Some restrictions on land use do apply.

Applications are grouped by time periods and given ranking according to pre-established program goals. Those applications that meet the minimum ranking criteria will be accepted into GRP.

Applications for this program are being taken at the Gilmer-Calhoun County FSA Office in the Post Office Building in Glenville, 201 E. Main St., Rm. 122. If you have questions, please call 304-462-7171 or 1-800-284-4960.
