COMPUTERS $750 OR LESS TAX FREE THIS WEEKEND - WV's Sales Tax Holiday

(07/30/2003)
West Virginia will have another sales tax holiday this weekend starting Friday night at midnight and ending Sunday at midnight.

Consumers can save the 6% sales tax on many items, including the purchase of a computer for $750 or less, a savings of $45. Computer accessories can also be purchased tax free up to $100.

Governor Bob Wise says consumers saved $1.7 million last year, and he estimates savings will be about $2.2 million.

Articles of clothing like shirts, pants and shoes are tax-exempt as long as each individual item is under $100. The total price is sales exempt no matter how high. Books, pencils, pens and other school supplies are also available this weekend in West Virginia without the six percent sales tax.
