Elizabeth-Wirt VFD escorts Private Miller back to his county
Pvt. Miller greeted by family and friends at Sportsman Park
By John Griffin
A crowd gathered again at Sportsman's Park in Elizabeth this Saturday evening, to welcome an American
soldier back home.
Private Nathan Miller, who has served in Operation Iraqi Freedom, has returned to Wirt County on leave. He
has been in the Iraq area since the latter part of January
until last week.
The Elizabeth-Wirt Volunteer Fire Department provided a lights-and-siren escort into
town, but somehow Nathan's mother drove ahead of them and they got to the park first.
His family and friends were glad to have him home, and Private Miller appeared to be happy in familiar
surroundings.
Private Miller is the son of Willard and Jeanna Miller of Elizabeth.
He has a 21 -day leave and will be returning to Fort Benning, Georgia on the 18th of August. Nathan is to
absorb some more training after going
back on active duty , His next assignment is uncertain.

Hopefully there will be more "Welcome Home" celebrations at local parks across the country in the near
future, just like the ones recently in
Elizabeth.
Another Wirt soldier is coming home this week.
Sgt. David Bell, who was seriously injured in a training accident in California, will be coming to Elizabeth
and then home to Newark. He is expected to arrive Thursday evening.
He is being flown to Texas for medical evaluation and then to
Pittsburgh and on to Parkersburg, where his mom and dad will bring him home.
There will be an open reception from 4-9 pm Friday, August 1 at the Bell
home in Newark.
Sgt. Bell is preparing for more surgeries and this is a short stay here before
returning either to Texas or San Diego for more surgeries.
