STATE LOOKING TO INSURE MORE KIDS

(07/25/2003)
While West Virginia may now have the largest number of uninsured adults per capita for health care, the state expects to cover more than 22,000 children through its health care plan for low income families.

The Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) saw enrollment drop to around 20,000 last year, but CHIP officials have worked to increase awareness about the program around the state. Officials have reached out to kids through their school, doctors, dentists and other health care providers.

An estimated 26,000 West Virginia children are eligible for health care through CHIP. State officials are considering new ways to alert more parents about the program's benefits.
