SEARCH FOR NICHOLSON HAS RESUMED - Failed To Turn Self In

(07/22/2003)
Police have resumed the search for Grantsville resident Gary Nicholson.

"He is apparently wanting to be a fugitive," authorities said.

Nicholson fled from the State Police and the Calhoun Sheriff's Department early last Friday, after they attempted to pick him up on a parole violation.

Nicholson had sent word to Calhoun Sheriff Allen Parsons he would turn himself in at 10 a.m. Monday, but he did not show. He later indicated he would turn himself in at 4 p.m., but still did not appear.

He is reportedly going to the houses of friends or family, who are apparently harboring him, sometimes staying in the woods.

Nicholson ran into the woods on Norman Ridge after officers arrived on the scene. During the early morning hours police used a tracking dog in an attempt to locate him.

Authorities said he likely received some injuries.

Nicholson, who has reportedly been on parole since 1999, had fled from a parole officer in Spencer or Ripley, after a drug screen indicted he had been using cocaine.
