The regional media made little notice of floodwaters that descended on the
Village of Auburn in Ritchie County last week.
Those storms that skirted Calhoun County to the north, dumped huge
amounts of rainfall on Ritchie and other counties.
At least twenty homes, four trailers and three businesses sustained heavy
damage in the village. The Auburn United Methodist Church was hit.
Water actually rose higher than the well-remembered 1950 flood which
took 30 lives and destroyed 150 homes.
Auburn residents had little warning, the water rushing through the village
in a matter of minutes after the rain came.
Other Ritchie towns and citizens came to the assistance of the small
village and the village is attempting to get back to normal.
