Bramblewood has ground level garden apartments

Manager David Weaver says "A great bunch of folks live here"

Bramblewood Village is one of Calhoun's public housing projects that has been well-maintained and has a history of serving the elderly, the handicapped and the disabled.

The 30-unit ground level complex , funded by HUD, offers one and two bedroom apartments, with nearly all the conveniences.

Located at the end of Vaughan Road off Route 16 near Grantsville, the facility has daily Senior Citizens transportation, with Meals on Wheels for residents unable to travel.

"For people who don't want to drive, there is ample transportation," said Manager David Weaver.

"There are a great bunch of folks living here, although we have lost a couple of our long-time residents recently," said Weaver. He said the facility provides one level garden apartments, wall-to-wall carpeting, appliances, modern kitchens, spacious storage, and energy saving heat pumps.

The apartments are well insulated, have an emergency call system and security lighting.

There are laundry facilities, inside mailboxes, a community room for visiting and parties and on-site management.

Water, sewage and garbage is paid. Residents are accepted based upon income.

Weaver said there are currently some open apartments and applications are being taken.
