WEAVERS WERE PIONEER SETTLERS - Reunion Held Saturday

(07/01/2003)

L to R: Dale Davis, Mae Weaver Jennings of Five Forks
and Judy Weaver Sampson of Cambridge, Ohio

The descendants of Eugeneous and Elizabeth Ellyson Weaver held their annual reunion Saturday at Mt. Zion Community Park.

The Weaver clan in this part of the world are descendants of John Alexander and Nancy Proudfoot Weaver of Tanner, coming to the area from Barbour County.

The Weaver's came to PA and WV, crossing the Allegheny Divide when there were only 20,000 citizens in the "west."

One of his sons, Wilson T. Weaver (1858-1938), who married Virginia Poling Weaver (1861-1941) came to Calhoun, living on Sassafras Ridge.

They had six sons and a daughter: Frank, superintendent of Calhoun schools; Augustus, field superintendent for the Hope Gas Company; Arley Ezra Weaver, superintendent of Calhoun schools and businessman; Oral Dewey Weaver, teacher and employee of Hope Gas Company; Orvan Weaver, law enforcement officer; Roy Talmadge Weaver, executive with C & P Telephone Company; Della married Scott Burns.

One of the older Weaver's attending Saturdays event was Mae Weaver Jennings of Five Forks. Jennings was honored a short time ago as a 50-year graduate of Glenville State College. She taught school in Gilmer County for many years.

One of the Weaver family genealogists, Judy Weaver Sampson of Cambridge, Ohio, attended the reunion.

The other well-known Weaver genealogist, Carlton "Buck" Weaver, the son of Arley Weaver, is planning on attending the CCHS reunion this weekend.
