COMMISSION ACCEPTS MINNORA CENTER PROPERTY - Center Facing Critical Money Problems

(07/01/2003)
The Calhoun Commission in a single item meeting yesterday afternoon agreed to accept the transfer of the Minnora Community Center property back to the county.

The center had the property leased for 99 years.

Board president Donna Jordan, presented a document to the Commission turning over the center's assets to the county prior to midnight last night.

The center was facing a severe financial crisis with an increase in liability insurance. The monthly premium doubled, according to Jordan, from $300 to nearly $600.

The Commission will cover the liability insurance.

Jordan and eight members of the MCC board agreed to the ownership change, so the center can continue to function as a community service.

The Commission voted unanimously to accept the property, and in turn appointed the current officers and directors as a committee to continue operations.

The center continues to face financial problems.
