TEENS BUSY IN HOT SUMMER SUN - Group Workcamp Helping County Residents

(06/25/2003)

The 400 plus teenagers and adults, members of "Group Workcamp," were busy yesterday in the hot summer sun around Calhoun County. The faith-based group is here for the week, sponsored by CRI. (See story yesterday)

They have been working on a mix of projects from roof repair, decks, wheelchair ramps, inside and outside painting - just about everything except plumbing and electrical work.

Over 125,000 teenagers have participated in the program since 1976. This summer they have work camps going at 72 sites in North America.

The teens are working hard to get their projects completed on local houses, at no cost to the homeowner.

Thom Schultz is the founder of the Christian-based project. As a youth worker in his church, he began to participate in service missions. He said he understood the power of Christian service to change young people's lives.

Schultz said today's young people want to help change their world by helping others in need.
