For a while the rain has stopped in Creston. Gary Buchanan cut some hay and others worked their ground. Earlier there
had been hard rain and high water. Slips and slides continue to move.
There were 18 participants, including the kitchen helpers, in the Adopt a Highway litter cleanup on W. Va. 5 Saturday. 21
bags of rubbish were removed. Several interesting items, including a live copperhead, were found. In addition, substantial
numbers of wood ticks were encountered. The workers dined on biscuits & gravy along with doughnuts.

was buried in the Cooper cemetery.

Ground Hog church, he was also a long time employee of Spencer oil man Harry Clay Boggs.
Both Jerry Snyders were in Creston mowing and maintaining properties.
A number of area residents attended the W. Va. State Folk Festival at Glenville. Famed Clay County fiddler John Morris
noted that W. Va. has a new war heroine, former POW Jessica Lynch, and he played a special selection for her. He chose
the fiddle tune "Camp Chase". Solly Carpenter was a POW at Camp Chase which is located in Columbus, Ohio. There
was a fiddle contest there with the winner being able to go home. Solly Carpenter won and returned to his home and thus
was not one of the over 2200 POWs who died in the camp which was used during "The Recent Unpleasantness".
One local retired military man had a long talk with one of the crew that rescued PFC Jessica Lynch and he reported that,
especially on the first night, there was lots of resistance inasmuch as the site was the local HQ. He noted that the rescue was
not staged as claimed by the left wing media. This is one where some of the liberals will get to eat lots of crow and likely
some of it will be infected with the West Nile virus, likely the result of the bioterror activities of a middle eastern
madman.
Speaking of the liberal elite media, The New York Slimes, which has now been caught in a lot of "whoppers" put the Lynch
family on Tobacco Road which was a reference to an Erskine Caldwell novel that went way out of its way to make
southerners look like hopeless degenerates. The big city paper was not being kind or even close to fair (and certainly not
balanced).

Rev. Juanita Lockhart filled her regular appointment at the Burning Springs M. E. church and gave a report on the annual
conference at Buckhannon. Some of those present at the conference wanted the church to go on record as opposing the
liberation of Iraq (or supporting Saddam Hussein) but they did not prevail.
Work has commenced on the paving job on W. Va. 5 between Creston & Annamoriah. Two thirds of the paving jobs had
been slashed because of the financial woes down at the Mouth of Elk River.
Betty Bish's sister who lives in Pennsylvania was visiting in Creston and checked out the Community Building. She had gone
to school in "the little room" and noted that she didn't go in the "big room".
One local fellow had mower trouble (it was between rains) so he scurried up to Grantsville for a part. One of the big time
crime fighters caught him parked on the wrong side of the street and "gave him a present". Next time he will park on the
right side or else go shopping in another town.
The price of local Pennsylvania grade crude oil rose to $27.50/bbl.
Jane and Nancy Engelke attended the Miss West Virginia America pageant in Clarksburg on Sunday evening.
