Greg Cartwright, Director of Curriculum and Instruction for Calhoun County Schools, has released information about the SAT-9 scores for first and second graders in Calhoun schools.
One of the easiest scores to consider is the Basic Skills which is a reflection of reading, language arts, and math scores. A national average score would be the 50th percentile on Basic Skills, said Cartwright.
First Grade at Arnoldsburg had an average Basic Skills score of 74th percentile and second grade had a score of 72nd percentile. Pleasant Hill had a first grade score of 80th percentile and second grade score of 70th percentile.
Cartwright said these scores are "fantastic."
A second statistic is the percent of students who score in the top quartile. Quartiles are formed by dividing the students in the nation into four equal groups so we would expect 25% to be in each quartile.
Calhoun's students scored exceptionally well.
Cartwright offers his congratulations to the students and teachers at these specific grade levels for their exceptional performance on the SAT-9 test this year.
Calhoun middle and high school students did not fare well on this years SAT-9 scores, but Cartwright said the school will not likely be placed on probation.
Calhoun Middle/High School principal Mike Offutt said "All the plugs are being pulled to improve test scores."
