A group that promotes higher education in southern states is creating a college
scholarship honoring Private First-class Jessica Lynch.
The scholarship announcement last night in Austin, Texas will not name an
individual, but will name a county - Wirt County.
The Southern Regional Education Board will use money allocated for its annual
Lamar R. Plunkett Award to help a Wirt County student.
Mississippi Governor Ronnie Musgrove says this year's award will honor veterans
and those now serving in the military.
Wirt County was picked because it's Lynch's home.
Lynch joined the Army after high school to raise money so she could attend college
and become a kindergarten teacher.
