West Virginia will receive an additional $600,000 in tobacco settlement funds because of a revision in the Master Settlement
Agreement.
Attorney General Darrell McGraw says Brown & Williamson, the nation's third largest cigarette manufacturer, has agreed to
make payments for cigarettes it manufactured for Star Tobacco. Those cigarettes were excluded from the original formula
used in determining the settlement payments.
Brown and Williamson and other major tobacco companies have agreed they will take responsibility, in the future for any
cigarettes they manufacture for other companies, under the Master Settlement Agreement.
In 1998, the nation's tobacco companies agreed to pay 206 billion dollars over 25 years to West Virginia and 45 other states
to settle lawsuits.
