| Gladys Starcher, 84, of Spencer died June 15, 2003, at Roane General Hospital, Spencer.
She was born Oct. 31, 1918, in Calhoun County. She retired as a cook in the dietary department of the Spencer State Hospital.
She is survived by two daughters, Helen Deel of Spencer and Elizabeth Ann Ashby of Ravenswood; one son, Jesse Bill Starcher of Spencer; one sister, Oleda Leach of Parkersburg; nine grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and four stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elzie Starcher; her foster parents, Jesse and Goldie Rose; one brother, James Morris; two grandsons, Michael Starcher and Donald Ray Deel; and one great-grandson, Aaron Starcher.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Tim Bess officiating. Burial will be in the Eventide Cemetery. Visiting hours will be from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday
