Police on the east coast are looking for the alleged shooter in the murder of a Spencer man yesterday, according to Spencer
Police Chief Gary Williams. Dreu Ferguson Jr., 27, of Spencer fled the scene yesterday in a a silver 1993 Dodge Spirit with
license plate number 5FT622.
Williams considers Ferguson armed and dangerous."He does not like police officers," he said.
Ferguson has been charged in the death of his neighbor, William Freas, 29, after he allegedly shot Freas one time in the chest
while standing on Freas' porch. A visitor to the house said Ferguson shot the weapon twice.
Williams told media "Ferguson has a history of violence. He's either in West Virginia or en route to Delaware or New
Jersey." He had lived in Roane County for about six years.
Ferguson was charged previously with the death of his infant child and had been released from jail on bond. He was awaiting
trial. State Police arrested Ferguson and his wife, Jessica Ferguson, 21, and charged them with child abuse and murder by
parent through physical abuse. They would face 10 to 40 years in prison, if convicted.
In June 2002, the Fergusons' five-week-old son Shea was dead when he was taken to Roane General Hospital. The
medical examiner's office determined that the baby was a homicide victim.
