Slide brings down large rocks
North side Grantsville has been struck by a record number of earth slides, some
causing the roadways to fall apart.
Following the severe winter, ice storms, snow and the long spring of rain, rain, rain -
the county has been plagued with rock and earth slides, possibly a record
number.
Some of the slides have been caused by water eroding across areas of large
up-rooted trees during the ice storm.
Others are from extremely steep hillsides like the area across the river from
Grantsville, long known as Northside.
At least a half-dozen earth and rock slides are still producing and causing problems
for the residents.
In recent years a slide destroyed a a Northside house and damaged others. This
winter a huge boulder came though one dwelling.
