The Calhoun Commission discussed the possible impact of deep well
drilling on the
county, during their meeting Monday evening. The current method of
taxing oil and
gas could place some money in the counties coffers to provide basic
services, if
deep wells are substantial producers.
A special "get acquainted" Calhoun-Wirt development meeting is
scheduled for March
26 in Grantsville at 7 p.m. Officers will be elected from the
eight-member board. The
two-county authority can leverage more economic development funds,
providing
matching moneys can be found.
The Commission approved the deed transfer, after legal scrutiny, of
its partial
ownership of the Calhoun County Committee on Aging property. The
$50,000 paid the
county by CCCOA is being applied to the regional jail bill.
American Red Cross Month has been officially declared by
resolution.
The Commission acknowledged the application of a local $20,000 law
enforcement
grant submitted by Sheriff Allen Parsons.
Tom Fox and Rick Postalwait have been placed on the E-911 Advisory
Board.
Permission was given to the Wood Festival to use courthouse
property.
Mike Little was hired as a part-time 911 dispatcher.
The Courthouse was declared a smoke-free public building.
The Commission decided to submit a grant application for about $15,000
to improve
courthouse security.
A review was made of the current budget ending February 28. A final
2001-2002
budget meeting will be held March 19 at 5 p.m. The Commission approved
bonds, bills,
wills and corrected erroneous tax assessments.
