Students receive Yellow Belts
By Dan Cosgrove
On Saturday, May 31 2003, five karate students were tested, and received their yellow belts. For 12 weeks, as part of the
Arnoldsburg's Lights On! after school program, these students practiced the skills necessary to achieve this honor. With
their instructor Dawn Webb giving final instructions and encouragement, black belt master instructor Mickey Metz from the
Aze-Ki Karate Academy in Glenville arrived to put the students through an arduous test lasting 2-hours.
Students had to be able to count in Japanese and answer numerous questions asked by the master instructor. They also had
to demonstrate the positions and moves necessary to advance to yellow belts. Parents, friends and relatives were impressed
with the abilities demonstrated by the children and the thoroughness of the test. I also think I saw one or two moist eyes as
students were presented with their belts and certificates. Congratulations to Nathan Cosgrove, Levi Gordon, Alexander
Perrin, Trenton Phillips and Nicholas Smith.
