There will be a sing Saturday, June 14 at the Community Building. For particulars one should contact Mary Ann Dobbins.

Anna Engelke and Keith Collins were in visiting over the week-end. Anna picked up her "new to her car". She has accepted employment at Evergreen Health and Rehabilitation Center in Winchester, Virginia in the human resource department. She will be residing in Middletown, VA. Keith has accepted employment with the Shenandoah County School system and will be teaching at the Woodstock, Virginia middle school. Anna reported gathering and fixing locust blossoms found up in the mountains where the season is later.

Mary Henthorn, age 85, passed away up in Zanesville, Ohio. She was a daughter of the late Ira & Ella Campbell Baker and grew up at the mouth of Pete's Run. She is survived by her husband and 3 sons, one of which, Jimmy, used to return on a regular basis to Creston.

Some local residents participated in the dedication of the WWII Veterans Memorial bridge in Elizabeth on Friday. Manchin said his announcement was not related to the song.

A number of area residents and family of area residents graduated from high school. Someone had a stretch limo at the event in Elizabeth. There were a few who were complaining that the Jessica Lynch saga and the news media at the graduation ruined things for them. There is an old saying that there are some who can snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Obviously the saying is still timely.

In a lighter vein it was learned that "some of the locals" took the crew from MTV out snipe hunting. It was not reported just how many snipes the city slickers caught on their first hunt and how they told the world (or whoever watches MTV) about their experience.

Bob Kelly who resides down in Florida reported that he keeps up on the local scene by reading the Creston News. He noted that he aims to keep on top of happenings in the oil and gas business. He is a grandson of Trevia Kelly.

There is a big timber job out behind the old Ruble church.

The price of local Pennsylvania grade crude rose to $26.25/bbl. It has been reported that several wells will be drilled in counties near Creston. Storage fields were depleted last winter and others are preparing for the Greenbrier pipeline which will require 400 million cubic feet of gas per day.
