GRADUATES RECEIVE TOP AWARDS - Promise Scholarships Announced

Calhoun High School announced today that Matthew Bonar will be Valedictorian for the Class of 2003 and Kara Haymaker will be the Salutatorian. The academic selections came down to the wire, with third place James Bailey in close contention.

Seventeen PROMISE scholarships will be awarded Thursday evening at the special awards recognition event at Calhoun High School beginning at 6:30 pm.

Eighty-eight students will be graduated Friday evening at 7 pm.

Debra Cunningham, school guidance counselor, released some of the top recipients today. More than one million dollars will go to CHS students in the Class of 2003, she said. "We have a large number of really good students this year."

Seventeen Promise Scholarships, fully-paid tuition to West Virginia colleges - Amber Carilli, Rachelle McBride, Sarah Lynch, Jessica Gherke, James Bailey, Brandon Fox, Ashley DeWeese, Matthew Bonar, Tia Satterfield, Kara Haymaker, Joseph Park, Jacob Krack, Laura Pfeffer, Patrick Wildfire, Jamie McKown, Regina Davisson, and Michael Prusack.

McKelvey Foundation Gold Scholarships, which are worth not less than $40,000, are going to Joseph Park, Deva Murphy, and James Bailey

McKelvey Foundation Bronze Scholarships to Zach Propst, Bradley Stevens, and Heather Weaver
