Promise Scholarships have been announced for 16 students from Calhoun County, 21 from Roane County, 20 from Clay County, 70 from Jackson County, 16 from Gilmer County and 22 from Wirt County.
Debra Cunningham, guidance counselor at Calhoun High School, said the names of the Promise winners were not available from the school because of final grading issues. She said Gov. Wise would announce the awards when he visits the school.
Students from Roane County High School who qualified, Amy Abbott, James Atkins, Kimberly Cottrell, James Ellison, Winston Harris, Mark Higgs, Carrie Hodge, Chasity Johnston, Erin Kendall, Tiffany Knight, Joseph Lowe, Michele Martin, Allison Nichols, Mark Pauley, Victor Rhomenus Jr., Kimberly Stone, Nathan Taylor, Kelley Tracy, Amy Williams, Bruce Williams and Matthew Woodring.
Statewide, more than 4,100 seniors will receive the awards.
The scholarship pays four years of tuition at any public college or university in West Virginia, or a comparable dollar amount at any private college in the state.
