Our after school program is winding down for this year. The activities at Arnoldsburg and at the Middle/High School will
end this Thursday, the 22nd; activities at Pleasant Hill will wrap up a week later, on the 29th. It has been a crowded year,
with so many things going on, and so many high points. Thanks to everyone who helped make it all possible, and to the
participants, who made it all worthwhile.
Application forms for Lights On! summer programs have just gone out. This year, the elementary schools will have a single
combined program at the Middle/High School. Energy Express will also have its elementary programs combined into a single
program at the Middle/High School. Unlike the previous two years, there will be no midday bus run, so students will either
have to stay all day, or families will need to make arrangements on their own for the midday transportation.
If you're coming to one of the big upcoming events at the High School, such as the All-Sports Banquet, the Honors Banquet,
the County Award Ceremony, or Graduation, be sure and stop in to see the Smithsonian exhibit and the Calhoun County
Historical Society exhibit. They will be open for an hour prior to each of the events mentioned.
Cokey Gainer will be hosting two films in our Sci-Fi Family Film Festival on Wednesday the 21st and again on Wednesday
the 28th, in the High School Auditorium. Admission is free for the films, which will begin at 6:30 p.m.
I've talked with four different people who have been to Richard Magly's Friday night Yoga class, and they all say the same
things: "Great!" "Terrific!" "I've taken Yoga classes before, and this one's an eleven on a scale of one to ten!" "The
stress-reduction techniques really work!"
Another class getting nice reviews is Linda Jones's class on "Wildcrafting and Herbal Remedies" at the Career Center.
Linda really knows her plants and their uses, and she's happy to share her knowledge.
We have "Landscaping" classes at both Arnoldsburg and Pleasant Hill-a wonderful opportunity to get some professional
input on design schemes and site preparation. Susan Carpenter is the instructor at Arnoldsburg, and Susan Spengler is the
instructor at Pleasant Hill. I had the chance to meet Ms. Spengler when she was showing her plans for the Stump Hotel to
the Historical Society; she is creative, professional, and enthusiastic.
Those are our Lights On! Highlights for this week. We'll shine our flashlights in a few new places next time.
