The 2003 West Virginia Summer Agricultural Institute for Teachers will be held in July at Jacksons Mill.
The institute is sponsored by the West Virginia Farm Bureau Foundation and West Virginia University Cooperative Extension. Its purpose is to teach teachers more about agriculture and how to integrate this information into their curriculum.
"This is a great chance for school teachers to learn about agriculture in a classroom setting, and to visit farms and ag-related businesses for a first-hand look at the industry," said Agricultural Institute coordinator Mary Beth Bennett.
"The teachers don't have to know anything about agriculture or farming. This course is geared for the complete novice."
The institute will be held July 21-25. There will be a $75 registration fee, which includes continental breakfasts and lunches and materials. Lodging on site is $50. Three hours of continuing education credits are available through WVU for an additional $99. Scholarships may be available through the county Farm Bureau.
Applications are available on-line at www.wvfarm.org. Requests for registration forms should be made by June 1.
