The opening ceremony for Relay for Life begins at 7 p.m. Friday at the Glenville State College football field, with several
Calhoun groups participating in the annual event.
Calhoun County Relay for Life groups have already raised $20,573.26 for the American Cancer Society. Gilmer County
groups have raised $10,100.
Jean Simers, a local Relay for Life organizer, said "If you have not attended a 'Relay' event, you should consider stopping
by," because of the special atmosphere and community participation.
Cancer survivor names will be read and they will walk the first lap around the track, followed by
family and caregivers.
The Luminary Ceremony will begin at dark, with lots of food, fun and entertainment for the public.
