Thunder and rain storms have been sweeping across the area since Friday evening, causing local flooding and the Little Kanawha River to rise. The West Virginia OES says the river will crest at 39.0 to 40.0 feet early Sunday morning in Grantsville. Flood stage is 36.0 feet.

Most Calhoun streams have been out of banks.

Roane County has also been experiencing flooding throughout the day.

The river is expected to cause flooding in Grantsville's low lying areas. The Grantsville VFD was expecting to begin some evacuating early Sunday morning.

Water was blocking Route 7 (Russett Road) and Route 5 West at Cain's Riffle late Saturday night. Route 5 East toward Glenville was closed except for emergency traffic.

Kids attending Calhoun High's Prom were being told they should live early if they were to be affected by the closing of highways.
