A "State of the Town" public meeting has been called by Grantsville Mayor Gary
Knight for Monday evening. Knight is asking every concerned citizen to attend the
meeting starting at 6 p.m. at the Senior Center. It will be held in the dining room.
The meeting will allow citizens to express their views regarding the future of the
town and issues that concern them, he said.
The current deal with Grantsville businessman Steve Satterfield to erect a new town
hall in trade for the current town property, will be discussed. (See earlier story in
The Herald)
The Grantsville Council voted this week to accept a proposal by Satterfield which
would allow him to erect a large convenience store on current town property.
Satterfield told Council the $750,000 store would hire seven people, provide income
to the town in taxes and increase business traffic.
Town Council voted to move ahead with the Satterfield proposal last Monday, with
two council members absent, one abstaining and two voting for approval.
During last month's Council meeting businessman Jim Morris presented a trade offer
for the town property. Morris said he wanted to erect a professional office building
on the town site that would attract professional people to the area. He would trade
an office building and a house he owns on Court Street for the town property.
The Morris property is located on the flood plain, while Satterfield says his proposed
location for a new town hall building is three feet above the flood plain.
Morris said he wanted the town to consider all their options.
Satterfield said it is likely most of the current town parking lot would be retained
with his deal. He indicated he would pave and improve the the parking lot.
Morris told Council he would not disturb the town parking lot. |
