A look at communities of the future

Calhoun Historical Society has fascinating room

The Smithsonian's Yesterday's Tomorrow's opened last night at Calhoun Middle/High School, an evening of "history about the future," according to Jeanne Hamming of WVU. The traveling exhibit will be in Calhoun through June 6.

The exhibition is an historical overview of what Americans thought the future would look like, beginning in 1900 and continuing through the late 20th century. "Come see for yourself how accurate those predictions were," suggested Dr. Tony Russell.

Historical Society president Bob Bonar recognized several individuals who helped with the exhibit.

Another highlight of the exhibit was TV video interviews of some of our senior county residents, done by Calhoun High School students, as well as rare video footage provided by the Historical Society and by Pat Radabaugh. The Society has a room of historical artifacts near the Smithsonian exhibit, reflecting life in the 20th century.

Harry Siers' best cooking provided snacks, and the talented music of area musicians featuring "Pokey Hardway and friends," rounded out the evening.

The Calhoun Historical Society held their monthly meeting after the opening.
