Rayanna Wilson Lancaster, whose untimely death was felt throughout the
county and
around the country, had periods of hope and recovery throughout her
lengthy illness.
Even after her double lung transplant at the Cleveland Clinic, things
got better for a
while. The family, strongly connected to Calhoun's Christian
community, has managed
to survive the long struggle, but they are have been left with bills.
Lots of bills.
The fund raising activities netted over $10,000, including $6600
raised on March 4th.
Angela Hersman and Karen Shreve, with the help of lots of people, have
led the effort
to raise funds for the family, most recently a dinner and auction at
the Calhoun County
Park. Nearly 400 people came from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m.
"We had the spaghetti dinner, auction, raffles and people sent money
from all over,"
said Hersman. "It has been a wonderful experience and we are really
grateful." She
said 147 people came to the dinner.
"Rayanna and I had a 20 year relationship. She was my best friend,"
said Hersman.
