Shelby M. VanScoy, 84, of Pennsboro departed this life Friday May 2, 2003, at his residence in Pennsboro.
He was born March 25, 1919, near West Union in Doddridge County, was a graduate of Doddridge County High School and graduated from West Virginia University. He was retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture with 35 years of service with the Soil Conservation Service, having worked for 18 years in Calhoun County and the balance of his working life was in Ritchie and Marshall Counties.
He had served on the Ritchie County Board of Education, was a veteran of World War II with service in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific Theater of operations and was a member of the Church of Christ of Pennsboro.
He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Vicki and Glenn Robinson of Kenna, W.Va., and Kay Linville of Pennsboro; one brother, Elden VanScoy of Point Pleasant; two sisters, Sarah Anderson of Altamonte Springs, Fla., and Eleanor Holz of Clarksburg, W.Va.; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Ada Belle McConnell VanScoy; wife, Kathleen Whaley VanScoy; and four brothers, Eugene, James, Eddy and Kermit "Mitch" VanScoy.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at McCullough-Rogers Funeral Home, Pennsboro, with Evangelist Terry Jones officiating. Interment will be in the Church of Christ Cemetery at Pike, WV. Friends may call from 3:30-9 p.m. Sunday and after 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
