An 18-year-old Calhoun High School senior is being charged with possession of
marijuana on school property, according to principal Mike Offutt. A West Virginia
State Police drug dog "sniffed" the drug in the school's parking lot yesterday.
A small plastic bag described as "the size of a quarter" was detected in a car.
Besides being given a citation by Trooper Fred Hammack, the female student will be
recommended for expulsion, said Offutt. She was a student in the Criminal Justice
class.
Offutt said this is the first time a drug sniffing dog has been to the school this year.
Officers took the dog in the locker areas, restrooms and parking lots of the school,
he said.
Several other students are on the agenda for expulsion at the next school board
meeting. They have been cited for purchasing marijuana laced brownies from
student Walter Wilson III, 18, of Big Springs.
Wilson has been charged with the delivery of a controlled substance within 1000
feet of a school and intent to deliver the substance, according to Calhoun
Magistrate Court.
Wilson reportedly sold the brownies to six or eight students for $2-$5 each.
He is facing up to eight felony counts, according to the arrest record. He was taken
to Central Regional Jail by State Police, after which he was released on bond.
