William H. Groves, 69, of Spencer, died Monday, April 28, 2003, at
his home.
He was born April 29, 1933, at Clio, a son of the late Theodore E.
and Gracie Mae Carpenter Groves. He was a retired heavy equipment
operator, member of the I.U.O.E. Local 132, Charleston, member of the
Blue Grass Riding Club, Spencer, and attended the Spencer Baptist
Temple, Spencer.
Survivors include his wife, Opal Cantrell Groves of Spencer;
children, David Groves of Gandeeville, Brenda Samples and Sharon
Atkinson both of Spencer, Barbara Lesher of Reedy, and Tim Groves of
Spencer; two brothers, Earl J. Groves of Blue Creek and Dwight Groves of
Rainelle; six sisters, Audrey Beasley of Wheeling, Wilma Mabry of
Morehead, KY, Barbara Jones of Elkview, Ora Mae Elmore of Clendenin,
Carolyn Daugherty of Elkview and Shirley Stump of Frame; 13
grandchildren, six great grandchildren, two step grandchildren and four step great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two
brothers, Paul E. Groves and Maywood Groves.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, April
29.
A funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, April 30 at 1 p.m. in
the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Basil
Hershberger officiating. Burial will be in the Groves Cemetery,
Vineyard Ridge. |
