State Police have confiscated a car belonging to a Grantsville man who allegedly
made a drug deal in the vehicle.
Trooper Fred Hammack of the local detachment charged Garland Ray Nichols with
possession and delivery of marijuana on February 13. The officer used an informant
who was wired during a drug purchase.
The State Police are taking ownership of the Nichols vehicle under the West Virginia
Contraband Act, which allows law enforcement to confiscate property used in drug
transactions.
A legal notice advises anyone who might have a claim against the auto to contact
the State Police by May 26, 2003, otherwise the vehicle will become property of the
agency.
Money obtained from confiscated property is used to further law enforcement.
