STATE'S HIGHER ED SCHOOLS RAISING TUITION - Facing 10% Budget Cuts

The state's public colleges and universities, facing budget cuts, are upping their tuitions.

Glenville State can raise tuition up to 7.5 percent.

West Virginia University has been granted permission to hike tuition by up to 9.5 percent.

Marshall, Fairmont and Shepherd followed closely behind with approval for increases of up to 9 percent. WVU Tech could hike tuition up to 8.4 percent and Concord and Bluefield State 8 percent.

Community colleges also received permission for tuition increases of up to 4.7 percent.

Gov. Wise asked for a 10 percent cut in state spending for the 2003-2004 fiscal year because of a looming 250 million-dollar deficit.
