A community-wide auction for Pfc. Jessica Lynch was raising over $10,000 late last night at Camp Barbe in Wirt County.
The fund raiser was planned shortly after she was reported missing in action in Iraq. A large crowd came out to donate and bid on items to help the war hero, who returned to Walter Reed Army Hospital yesterday.
Auction and Dip and Donate goers watched TV at the fund raiser, as Jessica was being carried from the plane. They cheered and cried.
It has been a fascinating time for rural Wirt County residents with all the media attention, with just about anyone who wanted to comment got air time, but this event was local. It was to show community support, and it did.
